Mushrooms differ from general green plants, they don’t contain chlorophyll and are not able to photosynthesize, hence they don’t require any direct sunlight. However, certain scattered light is needed in growth environment of mushroom.
Certain scattered light is indispensable to the differentiation of mushroom’s sporocarps, for example, Shiitake mushroom, Straw mushroom, Oyster mushroom, Hericium erinaceus and White fungus fail to produce primordia under the completely dark condition. And, intensity of illumination is also highly required by Black fungus.

2. 300-1000 LUX: Black fungus and Oyster mushroom
3. Above 100 LUX: Straw mushroom and Enoki mushroom
