Over the ten years of time, mushroom industry has been rising rapidly in China. Up to now, it has become the fifth largest agriculture followed by Grain, Oil, Vegetable and Fruit in China.
In recent years, although China has been successively achieving remarkable results on aspect of mushroom research, it still remains a certain gap compared to international leading level.
“There are over 1.5 million varieties of mushroom in the world, by now, China has mastered 17,000-19,000 varieties. China is born with favorable natural and geographical conditions, thus breeding abundant strains. Every year, i send students for collecting so as to enrich the research specimens,” introduces Mr. Li Yu, famous and sole academician engaging in research of China’s edible and medicinal mushroom field. “In order to stimulate the development of mushroom industry, we have to do a great job on deep mushroom processing which requires different mushrooms. And, the development of mushroom industry also helps realize the resource recovery of agricultural wastes, push the development of circular economy while it is also the new force for supporting the food safety in China.”
Nutrients contained in mushrooms are sourced from agricultural wastes, as known to all, mushroom is packed with 19%-42% of protein. Noodles and ice-cream we eat are packed with protein and fat, however, effective elements contained in straw and other agricultural wastes are extracted and then turned into food, which makes waste profitable.
What can be brought to China’s economic development through the promotion of mushroom industry? Nowadays, there are three directions for development of mushroom industry in China:
1. Mushroom industry is another new choice which promotes the structural adjustment of agriculture.
2. Mushroom industry is preferred by many governments to push precise poverty-alleviation.
3. Mushroom industry is the new field of Big Health Industry.
