Sinkiang: Poor Households Gain Prosperity Through Black Fungus Cultivation in Aksu Area

(Reporter Hejia) Recently, poor households working in Black Fungus Demonstration Planting Base are busy picking the last flush of mushrooms in Dunmaili Village, Aksu City, Sinkiang of China.

As the deeply poor village in Sinkiang, Dunmaili Village owns 274 households totaling 1016 population, 1/4 of which are in poverty. In order to help get rid of poverty, local government actively promotes Black fungus farming according to the local conditions. By now, a Black fungus base that covers an area of 2.4 mu has been built in Dunmaili Village while over 15 poor families have been encouraged to embark on Black fungus cultivation (farming) under the guidance of technicians.

According to governmental officers, the project was started in August,2018 and the first batch of sticks were arranged on August 16th. So far, more than 190kg of dried Black fungus have been produced after 5 times of picking,which have been sold out at a price of 70 CNY per kg, and gain favorable economic profits (900 CNY or so per household).

“Sales of Black fungus in Aksu go smoothly in this autumn.Now, the market price of fresh and dried Black fungus is respectively at 12-24 and 70-120 CNY per kg. Black fungus planting is evidently becoming the new path for local poor population to generate incomes,”said the principal of Agricultural Committee in Aksu.
