Production scale and output variation of Shiitake mushroom in China

Although artificial cultivation of Shiitake mushroom has over 800 years of history in China, it was basically in initiative and unordered condition before the reforming and opening. After reforming and opening, as the successful R&D and popularization of sawdust-substitute cultivation and other production technology modes, production scale and output of Shiitake mushroom have experienced quick development trend in China.

According to incomplete statistical summary done by China Edible Mushroom Business Net, in 2017, gross output on Shiitake mushroom reached 9.2589 million tons in China, up 10.84% compared with 8.3535 million tons in 2016. And, in the last 8 years, average annual growth rate on China’s gross Shiitake output hits 16.64%.

Output Statistics on Shiitake Mushroom During 2010-2017 in China:
2010: 4.2765 million tons
2011: 5.0179 million tons
2012: 6.3548 million tons
2013: 7.1032 million tons
2014: 5.4579 million tons
2015: 7.6666 million tons
2016: 8.3535 million tons
2017: 9.2589 million tons

Among China’s gross output of Shiitake mushroom in 2017 (meaning 9.2589 million tons), Henan Province accounts for 2.5787 million tons, shows 27.85% of proportion and ranks first in China. And, the second place, Hebei Province, accounts for 1.6318 million tons and shows 17.62% of proportion. Thirdly, Hubei Province, accounts for 1.46 million tons and shows 15.77% of proportion.

There are also reams of provinces which indicate the annual output of above 100,000 tons such as Shaanxi, Liaoning, Shandong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Hunan, Guangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan.
