Biological characteristics of Agrocybe cylindracea and formulas of substrate

Agrocybe cylindracea carries tender taste, abundant nutrition and it is one of the well-known mushroom varieties preferred by consumers.
BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
1. NUTRITION: Agrocybe cylindracea is categorized into wood-rotting type, it holds poor utilization capacity on lignin while it carries strong vitality on protease activity and strong utilization capacity on protein, hence growers could add organic nitrogen such as wheat bran, rice bran, corn flour and cake fertilizer so as to lift the output.
2. MOISTURE: Mycelia of Agrocybe cylindracea lead quick growth trend when water content of culture material (substrate) is at a range of 64%-67%. As sporocarps form, it is best to reduce relative air humidity from 100% to 85%, which propels the robust growth of sporocarps.
3. TEMPERATURE: Agrocybe cylindracea is resistant to high temperature while it is patient to low temperature. Mycelia of Agrocybe cylindracea lead normal growth at a temperature range of 5-35 degrees Celsius, the optimal temperature range is 18-28 degrees Celsius. And, the ideal temperature range during the formation period of sporocarp is 13-28 degrees Celsius while the preferred range is 18-24 degrees Celsius.
4. AIR: Agrocybe cylindracea is aerobic and it is sensitive to carbon dioxide. During the growth period of mycelia and sporocarps, fresh air should be assured. However, during the growth period of sporocarps, growers could moderately improve the concentration of carbon dioxide so as to promote the extension of stipe, thus boosting the yield.
5. LIGHT: Generally, during the growth period of mycelia, light is not needed. However, sporocarps of Agrocybe cylindracea evidently show phototaxis, hence certain scattered light (500-1000 lux) is required during the formation period of primordia and growth phase of sporocarps.
6. PH VALUE: During the growth phase of mycelia, suitable PH Value is 4-6.5 and the optimal range is 5.5-6. when it is below 4 or above 6.5, mycelia show sparse and tardy growth situation.

RECOMMENDED FORMULAS OF CULTURE MATERIAL:
FORMULA ONE: Sawdust 36.5%, Cottonseed Hull 36.5%, Wheat Bran or Rice Bran 25%, light Calcium Carbonate 1%, cane sugar 1%
FORMULA TWO: Cottonseed hull 78%, Wheat Bran or Rice Bran 25%, Gypsum 1%, Cane Sugar 0.5%, Lime 0.5%
