Shiitake industry plumps up growers’ wallet

Now, it is the peak production and marketing season of Spring bag-mode Shiitake, mushroom dealers from all parts of the country are swarming into Shiitake transaction markets of Lushi County, Henan Province of China. In Wayaogou Village of Lushi County, there are 36 fixed refrigeration houses and over 60 floating mushroom acquisition booths, daily acquisition on fresh mushroom comes to more than 300,000 kg and trading volume reaches more than 2 million CNY.
Now, within 18 villages and towns of Lushi County, bag-mode Shiitake industry occupies nearly half of gross economic income, in the county, there are above 43,000 households engaging in Shiitake industry, annual cultivation capacity obtains 344 million bags, annual output comes to 43 million kg, economic income attains 2.15 billion CNY while pure revenues go up to 1 billion CNY.
The development of bag-mode Shiitake industry changed traditional production and living habits of local villages, departed slack winter season has been transformed into busy farming season, a series of works such as inoculation, picking, sorting and packaging on Shiitake cultivation are orderly done by female labor forces, which broadens the troop of mushroom dealers and vendors. In addition to fresh and dried mushroom products, mushroom slices, sauce, condiment and other secondary products also enter into markets. With the support and help of local financial poverty alleviation policy, poor households are given force to expand cultivation scale and go well-off.
