1. Cultivation season: The season ranging from September to the next May is the optimal time for the cultivation of Monkey head mushroom.
2. The settings and the disinfection disposal of cultivation room: The cultivation room should be in tight structure, ventilated and should be set in old house, basement or cave where is oriented south and north, close to water source and owns the desirable properties on heat and moisture preservation. For those with higher conditions, a series of temperature and humidity controller, ventilation equipment could be settled so as to reach high, stable and superior yield. However, all the cultivation room should be strictly disinfected and sterilized before the cultivation.
3. Formula preparation: there are three common formulas:
A. Sawdust Compost: 78% broad-leaved sawdust, 20% rice bran or wheat bran, 1% cane sugar, 1 gypsum powder, moderate amount of water.
B. Cottonseed Hull Compost: 78% cottonseed hull, 20% rice bran or wheat bran, 1% cane sugar, 1% gypsum powder, moderate amount of water.
C. Bagasse Compost: 78% minced bagasse, 20% wheat bran or rice bran, 1% soybean powder, 1% gypsum, moderate amount of water.
It is advisable to choose one of the three formulas, mix all the materials evenly, adjust the PH Value to a range of 5.5-6, the water content to a range of 65%-70%, then bottling.
4. Inoculation: After the sterilization, when the material temperature has been cooled to under 28 degrees, remove the bottles into the sterile room, through airtight sterilization, inoculate a spoon of strain blanketing the bottle surface in accordance with aseptic technique, then plug with cotton.
5. Cultivation management:
A. Spawn cultivation: After the inoculation, immediately move into the place with the cultivation condition of 25-28 degrees, you could mainly adjust moderate temperature, keep dry and good ventilation, timely clean up when you find the bottles that are suspicious for sundry fungi contamination. When spawns are fully-grown, immediately move into the cultivation room.
B. Cool down and induce the buds: When spawns are fully-grown, you should timely remove the bottles into the cultivation room, then place in the cultivation shelves vertically and control the temperature in a range of 15-20 degrees so as to induce the formation of fungus buds.
C. When you find that sporocarps begin to form, pull off the cotton plug in time and horizontally put the bottles in the cultivation shelves, in that case, control the temperature in under 22 degrees, the relative air humidity in a range of 85%-95%. Meanwhile, be sure to ensure the favorable condition for ventilation. Once you find that sporocarps present globular, undispersed, short thorns and slow quick growth speed, then it reveals the advantageous ventilation. Poor ventilation is probably testified when you find that sporocarps present coralline, then it shows poor ventilation and is probably caused by excessive accumulation of carbon dioxide, under that circumstance, frequent ventilation should be given, or it may cause inferior quality and low yield.
It should be mentioned that during the production process of Monkey head mushroom, the whole period generally wants 12-15 days.
