The Australian Mushroom Growers Association says the majority of levy payers support an increase to the levy, which the association says will ultimately make the industry more profitable.
But, fruit and vegetable company Costa says the process of a vote by levy payers to increase the fee was unfair and not representative.
Costa Corporate Affairs Manager Michael Toby says his company is lobbying Tasmanian senators to block the increase in Parliament.
"At the moment the levy is $2.16 per kilogram, and the agriculture minister increased that, doubled it to $4.32 per kilogram," Mr Toby said.
A vote was taken on whether or not to increase the levy, and of those members who voted the majority were in favour of the increase.
General Manager of the Australian Mushroom Growers Association Greg Seymour denies claims raised by Costa that the voting process was not representative.
"The vast majority of the industry by number and by their contributions to the levy system support the doubling of the levy, and most of all the action to increase profitability for growers through the investment in research and development and marketing," Mr Seymour said.
