During the cultivation of edible mushroom, moisture plays a role of nourishing strains and mushroom bodies, it is also the key factor that determine yield and intervals of harvest. The water content of the majority of varieties in compost are between 60% and 65%. During the fruiting period, moistures in compost and the whole space are gradually reducing, so farmers should replenish moisture in time. There are some matters needing attention on moisturizing of edible fungus.
1. Rate of moisturizing: after first harvest, substrates are nutrient-rich, on that occasion, rate of moisturizing should be less. After growing second flushes, nutrition and moisture in substrates get reduced, on that occasion, Rate of moisturizing should be more, the soaking time of bags can be longer.
2. When moisturizing, it is better to use clean river water or underground water. It is better not to use pond water and ditch-water, which will produce sundry fungus and injurious insect.
3. Water temperature and greenhouse temperature should be kept as same as possible. It is improper to use cold water.
4. It is not good to spray water on anlage and mushroom buds. It is better to use sprayer.
5. After moisturizing, remove drops of water by ventilation, which will breed germs.
6. Moisturizing of bags is an important stimulation treatment and mainly used for those with longer cultivation period. After coloring and before fruiting, moisturizing should be done, moisturize till 65% of water content in compost. It is improper to moisturize under the condition of sparse strains, weak growth, disease and pests and the temperature should be under 5 degrees. After moisturizing the third flushes, some nutrient substances should be replenished, such as urea, sugar and monopotassium phosphate.
