Strains of edible mushrooms are as important as seeds of vegetables, they are the intrinsic factor and basis to guarantee a high and stable yield. The quality of strain directly influence the yield of edible mushrooms and the success of cultivation. So, the identification of superior strains is very important.
1. Observing: first, observe whether there are unusual spots, which mean unavailable. Second, observe whether strain bags or strain bottles were ever to be opened, which will form broken strains. Second, observe whether colors of strains are pure white, appearances are sturdy and bushy. It is worth mentioning that some strains should be selected separately. For example, strains of Shiitake will always produce brown pigment and have less aerial hyphae. Aerial hyphae of Oyster mushroom are always lush.
2. Smelling: when buying strains, you can open them and smell respectively. Normal strains possess special aroma, it is unnormal when smelling musty, sour or smelly, which also means that they have affected by other sundry fungus.
3. Trying: first, have a pinch at strain bags, good strains have moderate degree of tightness. Quite soft, loose or fragile are inferior strains and cannot be used. Second, open a bottle strain flask and use tweezers to stir, if they are fragile, so they are definitely inferior strains, if they are hardish and possess less chippings, so it means good strains and can be used for cultivation.
